Placenta Remedies

The placenta is a living entity built out of both mother’s and father’s genetic material. This entity takes from the mother's blood exactly what the baby needs to grow, minerals, proteins, all the mother's immunology. It also produces its own hormones and it is responsible for carrying out the work of three fundamental organs (kidney, liver and lungs) while these are formed in the baby. Iron is a particularly important mineral in its composition, which is fundamental to post-partum health; iron deficiency is associated with post-partum depression.

Preparing placenta medicine involves rinsing, laminating and dehydrating the placenta at low temperatures, grinding the dry laminates to a fine powder, which is filled into soft capsules, or used to brew tinctures. Placenta capsules are kept refrigerated and are a very useful ally in the transition from gestation to motherhood.

Regardless of whether the mother decides to consume the placenta for her own benefit or to give it to the earth to nourish her, the main idea here is that the placenta, as a precious organic product, has functions and uses beyond birth.

It has been reported that consuming the placenta has a wide variety of benefits and helps to:

  • Restoring energy after birth

  • Providing iron, minerals and vitamins

  • Balancing hormone levels

  • Increase of milk production

  • Reduction of postpartum bleeding

  • Return the uterus to its original size
